LAUREN BARNETT

Leadership. Experience. Service.

 

Lauren is a member of Borough Council, serving two years as Mayor and one year as Deputy Mayor. Lauren is proud of her track record of strong fiscal oversight, completing important projects, roadwork and other improvements, strengthening Borough communications and responsiveness, and supporting responsible development that improves our economic well-being. Lauren has served on many Borough committees, including the Planning Board, Finance Advisory Committee, Affordable Housing Committee, Personnel Subcommittee, Public Works Subcommittee and Shared Services Subcommittee.

 

Lauren graduated from Princeton University with a BA in Public Policy and International Relations and earned her MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management with majors in Finance, Strategy and Marketing. She is an experienced business strategy consultant, working for many years at IBM Global Services and Booz Allen & Hamilton, where her clients included a broad range of Fortune 500 companies, mid-sized businesses and government agencies. 

 

Lauren has been an active community member since moving to Mountain Lakes twelve years ago with her husband and three children. She served on the board of the Home & School Association for four years, as Treasurer and Vice President of Fundraising. Lauren also served on the board of the Mountain Lakes Sailing Program, and coached travel soccer and Destination Imagination. 

 

Lauren loves Mountain Lakes for its strong sense of community, its beautiful lakes and woods, its historic architecture, and its high quality schools. She is focused on preserving and protecting those things that make Mountain Lakes such a great place to live. Lauren appreciates the opportunity to give back to the community she loves!

KELLY W. HOLLIDAY

Kelly Holliday is a proud seven year resident of Mountain Lakes, where she serves the Borough on the Planning Board and the Affordable Housing Committee.  She brings her experience as a Certified Planner to work with the Economic Development Committee, aiding in the revision of zoning rules to accommodate future smart development along the Rte 46 corridor. She is wife to David and mother to two proud Lakers - Nate, 14 and Lexi, 11. 

After earning her bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and master’s degree from the University of Illinois in 1997, Kelly spent the next six years on active duty in the United States Air Force. She served as a civil engineer, environmental engineer, and readiness officer at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas and Scott Air Force Base in Illinois. Kelly served in humanitarian missions in Haiti and during Operation Desert Fox in Kuwait. 

She continued her service in the Air Force Reserves for an additional four years, serving as a land use and urban planning consultant for military bases in Southeast Asia. As Kelly retired from the Air Force in 2007, she continued to promote her vision of smart development for communities and government lands through her work as an urban planning and land use consultant for the next five years. Currently,  she leads the construction of commercial projects throughout the US.

Kelly is passionate about service and about Mountain Lakes. She is excited to engage with residents in order to update our vision for the future of the Borough--one that builds on and markets our unique assets while attracting and guiding growth that supports and strengthens residents and businesses.

CYNTHIA KORMAN

Entrepreneur. Solutionist. Public Servant. 

Cy currently serves on Borough Council, since being elected in 2016.  As a member of Council, she has focused on environmental issues, and economic development and affordable housing that is respectful of Mountain Lakes’ park-like character.    She has served on Borough Committees that include the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, Economic Development Advisory Committee, Environmental Commission, Public Safety Committee, Shade Tree Commission, and Shared Services Committee.

 

A transplanted New Yorker who started her New Jersey life in Rockaway Township, Cy and her family have lived in Mountain Lakes since June 2000.  She is a member of the Garden Club of Mountain Lakes, Mountain Lakes Professional Women’s Forum, and the Mountain Lakes League of Women Voters, where she served on its Running and Winning Committee from 2006 to 2016..  Cy has been a Junior Track coach and co-chair of the Junior Track Program.  She and her husband, Bill, are the proud parents of three MLHS graduates.

 

Cy has owned a small healthcare -focused consulting practice since 1993, and has served on the boards of several professional associations.  She has a BA in Political Science and an MS in Public Policy Analysis, both from the University of Rochester, and has public finance experience that she gained as a budget analyst for the City of New York.    After discovering her entrepreneurial side, Cy left civil service to work as a systems analyst in the private sector, and earned an MBA from New York University's Stern School of Business.

 

Cy appreciates the exceptional quality of life that we share as Lakers, and as a member of Borough Council has worked hard to preserve that quality of life.  She is committed to environmental preservation and cost-conscious investment that makes Mountain Lakes the address to have in New Jersey.  Cy sees Mountain Lakes as a Community of Communities, where individuals and families can engage in any of an exceptionally wide range of things.  As a candidate for re-election to Borough Council, Cy hopes to improve on the way that new residents are introduced to what’s available to them in town, and is committed to continuing to listen to and address the concerns of residents.   

KHIZAR SHEIKH

Family. Lawyer. Leader. 

Khizar Sheikh has been a leader since he was captain of his playoff-bound HS baseball team and principal performer in musicals and plays. Since then, Khizar has volunteered his time and skills to numerous community organizations as he has built a successful law practice that provides cybersecurity, privacy, and technology services to Fortune 500 companies. These organizations and clients trust Khizar to protect their interests, unify different voices to find common ground, and make the complex understandable. These skills and experiences are what Mountain Lakes needs today.

Khizar and his wife Nadia chose Mountain Lakes as their home in 2007 to raise their two sons, Siraj (age 14) and Samir (age 12). Khizar’s civic passions include children, strong families, and community, and are reflected in the organizations he has led or helped, including Family Intervention Services (Board Chair), Center for Family Services (Executive Board Member), Mountain Lakes Environmental Commission (Chair), Mountain Lakes Zoning Board of Adjustment (Vice-Chair), Mountain Lakes Economic Development Committee (Member), and Tri-town Little League (Executive Board Member and Manager). 

Khizar is running to preserve what makes Mountain Lakes great while helping it thrive in its second century. He has four core priorities: bringing together our community while fighting extremes, protecting our "crown" resources and assets, maintaining sensible budgets, and encouraging smart real estate and technology investment in our town. Khizar is ready to work with residents regardless of background or belief and asks for your vote to continue in the tradition of Borough Council leaders. 

Khizar is a proud graduate of Hamilton College (B.A., 1996), Rutgers University (J.D., 2003), Leadership New Jersey (Class of 2010), and Leadership Morris (Class of 2013). Khizar is the recipient of the 2011 Aletha R. Wright Volunteer Leadership Award.
